How To Install Ruby In Ubuntu 14.04
2 Answers 2
I did this by calculation the saucy (thirteen.10) repositories dorsum to my sources.list file.
-
sudo -H gedit /etc/apt/sources.list - Add
deb http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ saucy principal restrictedlater the first prepare. - Salvage the file and exit the editor.
-
sudo apt-get update -
sudo apt-get install ruby1.8 -
sudo apt-become install rubygems
Probably isn't the best way, but it seemed to piece of work for me. I had an older project with compass/sass that was declining on ruby i.nine but at present works as before.
I noticed that installing ruby 1.8 also installed a package called crimson-switch. Might be able to switch betwixt 1.viii and ane.9 with this utility, although I oasis't played with it and RVM is probably a better solution for switching cherry versions.

You should not use repos that are for older versions. You lot will see severe maintenance problems and mayhap break your organization.
Use a PPA like this one:
sudo apt-go install python-software-backdrop sudo apt-add together-repository ppa:brightbox/ruby-ng sudo apt-become update EDIT: Equally pointed out in the comments, they don't support 14.04 simply yet, but they have an experimental repository that has packages for Trusty.

Note that this doesn't work for xiv.04. "We provide Ruby 1.8.7 packages for Ubuntu Lucid, Precise, Quantal, Raring and Saucy."

Aye, this is what I finally came to.. more or less. Using unlike steps and tools but the basic idea is the same - using "saucy" repositories again.

Since 13.ten is stop-of-life at present, I'm wondering if it may presently be necessary to use the corresponding old-releases software source for that
debline. Equally a totally split up affair, note that some software from saucy (or any Ubuntu version) got SRUs after 13.x's release; in that case one would utilisesaucy-updatesorsaucy-securityinstead ofsaucy. As shown on this cached page,ruby1.eightdid non sosaucyis correct.Aug iv, 2022 at 11:56
